Concrete Driveways in Evergreen Park, Rebuilt From the Base Up
We lift out the failed drive, rebuild what lies beneath and place a heavier, steel-reinforced slab made for the car you park every day.
Why Do Driveways Crack, Sink and Crumble?
When a driveway breaks into sections, drops near the garage or flakes apart at the street, the surface is showing you a problem that started below it. In most cases the base was too thin, the soil underneath was soft, or water collected under the slab and froze. A surface patch reaches none of those causes, which is why we recommend replacement when a driveway has reached that point. Here is what replacement involves. First the failed slab is demolished and trucked off. With the soil exposed, we can see the cause and dig out any soft or wet areas. Then crushed stone is spread and tamped, lift after lift, to whatever depth the soil requires. The forms are graded to send runoff to the street or the lawn, never toward the garage. Because a driveway carries vehicles every day, it is poured thicker than a walk or patio, and reinforcement is concentrated at the apron, the turning area and near the garage door, where loads are heaviest. A broom drags traction lines into the top, control joints are cut in a pattern matched to the width, and the slab is protected while it cures. Before we leave, we explain how long to wait before walking on it and before parking on it.
What Is Included in Driveway Replacement?
Expect each of these on a driveway job.
Removal and hauling
The old slab broken up and taken away.
Subgrade inspection
Soft or wet soil dug out once it is exposed.
Rebuilt stone base
Compacted in layers to suit the ground.
Drainage direction
Pitched toward the street or sides, away from the garage.
Thickness for vehicles
Heavier than a walk or patio for everyday parking.
Reinforcement at load points
Steel at the apron, turns and garage door.
Broom finish and joints
Traction for winter and joints matched to the width.
Cure guidance
Clear timing for foot traffic and for parking.
How Is a Driveway Replaced?
Measure and quote
After measuring and studying where water runs, we put demolition, stone, depth, steel and surface on a written quote.
Demolish and rebase
The old slab is hauled away, soft soil removed, stone compacted and forms set to drain.
Pour and cure
The new slab is placed, given a broom texture and joints, and covered to cure. We then strip forms and clear the site.
What Do You Gain by Rebuilding the Base?
The cause gets fixed
We rebuild the base instead of covering the problem.
Steel where it counts
Reinforcement placed at the heaviest load points.
Clear explanations
You know what is being done and why at every step.
- Old slab hauled away
- Base rebuilt
- Reinforced at the apron
- Pitched away from the garage
